1. Introduction
Appalanche Inc. ("we," "us," "our") operates IncidentApp ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our App.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy applies to all users of the App, regardless of how you access it.
2. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account Information: Name, phone number, email address
- Incident Data: Photos, videos, audio recordings of accident scenes
- Scanned Documents: Driver's licenses, insurance cards, vehicle registrations (processed via OCR)
- Witness Information: Names, phone numbers, emails, and statements of witnesses you choose to record
- Medical Information: Injury details and medical symptoms you choose to document
- Vehicle Information: VIN, make, model, year, license plate
Information Collected Automatically
- Location Data: GPS coordinates when you use incident documentation features (only with your permission)
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, app version
- Usage Data: Features used, time spent in app, crash logs
- Timestamps: Date and time of evidence capture
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide incident documentation services
- To process documents via OCR and AI analysis
- To generate incident reports and evidence summaries
- To verify evidence integrity through timestamping
- To improve the App and develop new features
- To communicate with you about your account and the App
- To comply with legal obligations
4. How We Protect Your Data
&x1F512; Your privacy is built into our technology. Personal information is masked and tokenized before AI processing — the AI never sees your actual personal details.
Technical Safeguards
- PHI Tokenization: Before documents are sent to AI services, personally identifiable information (names, addresses, policy numbers) is replaced with anonymized tokens
- Encryption: All data transmitted to cloud services is encrypted in transit using TLS
- Local-First Storage: Your data is stored locally on your device by default
- BAA with Google: We maintain a Business Associate Agreement with Google Cloud for OCR processing
What We Do NOT Do
- We do NOT sell your personal information
- We do NOT share your data with advertisers
- We do NOT use your data for targeted advertising
- We do NOT store your raw personal data on our servers (local-first architecture)
5. Data Sharing
We only share your data in these limited circumstances:

We do NOT sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.
6. Your Rights
All Users
- Access your data stored in the App at any time
- Delete your local data by clearing app data or uninstalling
- Request deletion of your account and associated data (see our Account Deletion page)
- Disable location access through device settings
- Disable camera and microphone access through device settings
California Residents (CCPA)
- Right to Know: Request information about what personal data we collect and how it's used
- Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal data
- Right to Opt-Out: Opt out of the sale of personal information (we don't sell data)
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights

7. Data Retention
- Local Data: Stored on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App
- Cloud Synced Data: If you enable cloud sync, data is retained until you request deletion
- Cryptographic Hashes: Hashes used for evidence integrity verification are permanent (no personal data is contained in these hashes)
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at connect@appalanche.ai and we will delete it.
9. Third-Party Services
The App may integrate with third-party services:
- Google Cloud Vision API: For OCR document processing (with BAA)
- Google Maps/Places: For location services and nearby service providers
- Twilio Inc.: For delivery of one-time SMS verification codes. See Section 10 for details.
Each third-party service has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
10. SMS and Mobile Messaging
Phone Number Collection. When you create an account or sign in, we collect your mobile phone number to send a one-time verification code (OTP) via SMS. This is used solely for identity verification and account security.
SMS Provider. We use Twilio Inc. as our SMS delivery provider. Your phone number is transmitted to Twilio solely to deliver your verification code.
Opt-In. By entering your phone number during account creation or login, you consent to receive a one-time verification SMS from IncidentApp at that number. Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply.
Opt-Out. Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving messages. Reply HELP for support.
Message Frequency. SMS messages are transactional only — one verification code per login or signup attempt. We do not send marketing, promotional, or recurring SMS messages.
No Sharing of Mobile Data. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support of our services (e.g., the SMS delivery provider Twilio) is permitted. All other categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top and notify you through the App. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
